What is Electrolyzed Water?
Electrolyzed water is an all-natural, non-toxic, and non-hazardous solution that can be used for disinfecting or degreasing. As a disinfectant, it is a powerful oxidant that is 100 times more powerful than chlorine bleach. As a cleaner and degreaser, it is a powerful reducing agent that can effectively dissolve water-insoluble substances.
How does it work?
To make an all-natural disinfectant, add 1 Liter of water, 2 grams of table salt and 1 teaspoon of distilled vinegar. After powering on the unit for 8 minutes, electrolyzed disinfecting water will be generated. Similarly, an all-natural cleaner and degreaser can be generated by substituting table salt for potassium carbonate.

You can purchase any table salt that does not contain iodine or anti-caking agents at your local supermarket, usually labeled as kosher salt.

What is the active molecule that is disinfecting when generating electrolyzed water from table salt?

The active molecule is hypochlorous acid (HOCl). Hypochlorous acid is a powerful oxidant and is 100 times more efficient at killing bacteria than chlorine bleach or sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). Hypochlorous acid is also 100% safe and natural. It is found in our blood as one of the most powerful biological oxidants generated by our white blood cells against invading pathogens.

How long is the disinfectant active after being generated from the Eco One?

In a closed container such as a spray bottle, the concentration of hypochlorous acid decreases about 1-2% per day.

How can I test the disinfectant concentration?

Because hypochlorous acid is a free chlorine molecule, you can test it with standard chlorine test strips.

Why is the Eco One more expensive than some other systems?

It all depends on the quality of the electrolysis cell. The Eco One is manufactured with a high quality electrolysis cell and comes with a 1 year limited warranty. Other competing systems may not be generating hypochlorous acid and the electrolysis cell may be built with lower quality alloys which cause the electrolysis cell to burn out over time. In addition, the Eco One is capable of generating two different solutions, a disinfectant and a degreaser, whereas other competing systems can only generate one solution.

Do I need to purchase any special capsules for the Eco One?

No, the Eco One does not require any special capsules. We do not require users to purchase expensive capsules like some competing systems. All that is needed for the Eco One is table salt for generating disinfectant or potassium carbonate for generating degreaser.

Can the table salt and potassium carbonate be mixed to generate a combined disinfectant and degreaser?

No, the disinfectant is a strong oxidant whereas the degreaser is a strong reducing agent. If the two additives are mixed, the Eco One will not generate any useful solution. We recommend thoroughly rinsing out the Eco One when switching from generating the disinfectant to the degreaser or vice versa.
